Nick and Stephanie: A Couple Killed By Unknown

On February 14th, 2000 just 10 months after the Columbine school shooting the town would be shaken again. In the early hours of that February, the corpses of Nick Kunselman and Stephanie Hart-Grizzell were discovered inside of the Subway shop shot to death a dozen times.

The police published a description of the suspect who was a white male, 16 to 20 years old, about 5-foot-7 and 150-170 pounds with blondish hair which suggests he could have been a student. Likely if the suspect matches the age he is between the ages of 36-40 and could be still residing in the region.

Nick Kunselman and Stephanie Hart-Grizzell: A Couple

The police had a description but no suspect but earned new advice in February of 2020 after the 20th anniversary of the killings. Both Nick Kunselman and Stephanie Hart-Grizzell were a couple who both leaned on each other heavily after having endured the Columbine school shooting in 1999. The killings occurred right before closing and the security cameras which were usually turned off didn’t get anything.

Theories:

The robbery went wrong: This robbery could have happened in which a student broke in with a gun and he/she got identified by either Nick, Stephanie, or both which resulted in the robber murdering them to hide his identity. This is possible since the suspect was between the ages of 16-20 making them a student probably between a sophomore to senior.

Student Killed Them:

There is a likelihood a student could have murdered them. This student likely could have undergone PTSD from Columbine and went mad after losing a close friend which lead to the murders. This is also possible since in 2006 another Columbine survivor 23-year-old Brandi Jo Malonson vanished one day after Christmas and hasn’t been noticed since.

Numerous tips to police say Malonson was killed and then dumped in the Platte River, while others say she overdosed and murdered herself but these summaries haven’t been substantiated by police. This is suspicious since Malonson was friends with Nick and Stephanie which implies she could have probably known something and the individual who may have murdered her also murdered Nick and Stephanie.

This could be irrelevant since Malonson was also going through a lot of trauma due to being the last student to interact with sufferer Isiah Shoels who was shot and murdered in the Columbine school shooting in 1999. This could be a case of suicide but theirs also a likelihood she was killed for knowing something. This student who killed them likely could have probably been willing to go on a murder spree but got cold feet and agreed not to proceed with the killings.

Drug Deal Gone Wrong: In 2001 a police inquiry into the subway discovered out it was a place for drugs and drug deals. Stephanie’s mum said it was a haven for drug deals implying that Nick and Stephanie could have probably been involved in a drug deal that ceased with them both getting shot by a dealer. The drugs at the Subway comprised cocaine and pot which is likely why the camera was turned off as a way to mask the drug deals happening at the Subway.

Love triangle:

It could be that someone who liked Stephanie but since she was dating Nick the individual knew that if Nick was murdered they would get the opportunity to probably date them. They likely thought Nick was there lonely but they didn’t account for Stephanie being there and as a way to leave no observers they were urged to murder both of them.

Nick Was gonna report the Subway:

It’s possible that Nick was gonna report to the authorities that the Subway was having drug deals happening there. Nick likely was killed to keep the drug deals quiet and the camera was likely off that night as a way to mask the killing of Nick who they thought was alone and they just murdered Stephanie to leave no observer.
